This is a brief but effective activity that connects the purpose of cellular respiration to real life. Students will graph and analyze data demonstrating a decrease in ATP production within cells battling a viral infection. Students will interpret that data to make connections to a real life scenario of someone feeling tired when they are sick with a viral infection, such as the flu.

Emphasis is on the conceptual understanding of the inputs and outputs of the process of cellular respiration. Assessment should not include identification of the steps or specific processes involved in cellular respiration.
